Road trip! Fourth graders in Mrs. Angel's Math Academy are ready to travel. In pairs or trios, they planned a hypothetical trip somewhere in the United States with a budget of $5,000. Groups decided to go to Orlando, Miami and Las Vegas. Some chose to drive electric vehicles and had to determine how many times they had to stop to charge.

Students researched the cost of everything they decided to do and planned their budgets. They had to show how much money they had left.

The groups made posters with all the pertinent details of their trip and presented their plans to the class. Three groups decided to rent Teslas, and one group solved the charging challenge by purchasing a portable charger. Another group decided to save on hotel costs by renting an RV. After calculating the cost for gas or how often they had to stop to charge, the groups decided how to spend their money on attractions, food and lodging.

One group purchased an inflatable boat for fishing. Other activities they chose to purchase were: cruise, aquarium visit, heliocopter ride, Monster truck show and a water park. The food choices also were creative with one team buying a large container of cheese puffs and another vowing to eat only Ramen noodles the entire trip.

Pack your bags, parents!
