Third graders study the history of America during the colonial era and each is assigned a trade to research. They dress up and give a presentation on the trade.
The unit culminates in Colonial Trade Day, in which the students wear their outfits and rotate in groups between different skill stations. There's weaving, calligraphy, candlemaking and pottery, butter-making as well as Virginia Reel dancing and games like hoops and marbles. Parent volunteers help teachers organize the stations.
