They'll cultivate both their creativity and an engineering mindset. The Bright School Library is excited to announce we are offering a variety of monthly book clubs for first and second grade students. Club members will receive a copy of the book, Worm and Caterpillar Are Friends, on or around the first of the month. Participants then have until our scheduled meeting date to read the book (independently or with help). On the day of our meeting, we will celebrate the book with a snack and themed activity. Registration closes on the first day of the month, so be sure to register by February 1st for this club session.

Short Description: This Winter we are offering a six week session of after-school art.  This will be an excellent way for students who enjoy creating art to dig a little deeper. It is an opportunity to express their creativity in exciting new projects. We will work with sculpture, painting, and drawing. Each project will complement the classroom experience and challenge our students to think outside of the box. We will look at creative sculpture techniques, mixed media projects, and expressive drawing techniques.

Short Description: The Bright School Robotics Club is for 3rd-5th grade students who have a passion and affinity for designing and coding robots. This year's Robotics Club will use the VEX IQ system. VEX IQ is based on plastic, snap-together pieces specifically designed to build highly functional robots. This system doesn't require any prior knowledge of robotics. Students can easily build their first robot, and the wide variety of additional parts means that they can build anything they imagine as they continue to learn. During this 6 week class, students will participate in the VEX IQ Competition and Local League. In the VEX IQ Competition teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play with other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Students will learn the scientific principles of how a small engine operates through instruction and self-discovery. This class will take working small engines apart, discussing the role of the different components, and put them back together. A few topics covered are the relationship between temperature and pressure, Berneuli's principle, electromagnetic induction, and more. We will also look at engines that currently do not work. To these, we will diagnose and possibly fix the issues they may have.

Short Description: Little Geniuses is a chess-song singing, laughing, chess-tourney, dancing, chess clock-slapping, zany chess video, puppet show introduction to chess and being the smart kid in class. Kids report Little Geniuses to be the favorite part of their week because kids love our developmentally-targeted, infectiously-fun thinking activities and find them compelling, exhilarating, and extremely gratifying.  Can preschoolers really learn chess? You bet they can! The Knight School Little Geniuses Chess Program is a preschool chess class with an ingenious curriculum designed to exactly target, stimulate, and delight the preschool mind. Our fun chess lessons of the week—“Think a Plan and Follow It,” “Cool Kids Lose Well,” “Friends Are Always There,” “Never, Ever Cheat,” I Must Never Give Up,” and another ten like those—are just what preschoolers need to hear and want to hear. These chess lessons for kids can last a lifetime. Short Description:Our chess kids academy is absolutely unique in that it actually prioritizes learning chess third, after good sportsmanship, which is paramount, and fun, which is indispensable! But don’t worry, this counterintuitive philosophy actually provides the very best approach to genuinely becoming devastating at chess. True mastery of the chess board, like dance, soccer, and everything else, can take years and years of applied practice. Our safe and intensely exciting classroom environments are the perfect atmosphere to motivate kids to stay in chess long enough to get better and better at chess over time and ultimately become practically unbeatable. What we mean by that is that at a long weekend of state championship play, our veterans can lose some chess games, but at a weekend slumber party or an adult soiree, when they are challenged by a swaggering, overconfident adult, their attack is lightning-fast, hilariously destructive of their opponent, and literally in many instances breathtaking.
