Third graders study American colonial times in social studies and celebrate the culmination of their research with Colonial Day. Students are assigned a trade to research, and they wear colonial attire appropriate for their craft for the day.

At Colonial Day, students learned about blacksmithing from former shop teacher John Allen, who brought his equipment and showed the students how to heat and bend metal to make horseshoes and other implements.

Parent volunteers helped students at various stations learn numerous colonial crafts such as calligraphy and weaving, plus making candles, butter and hats. They also learned how to play marbles and hoop games and performed several dances.
