Generations of Bright School students have run the 50-yard dash and competed in the sack race over the last 100 years at the Bright School Picnic.

School founder Mary G. Bright started the picnic soon after the school was founded in 1913. The location of the picnic has changed four times, and it is now held on the school campus.

The Bright School Chorus sang the National Anthem to start off the day.

All students compete in races from the noodle race for JPK to the piggy-back race in fifth grade. Races also include the egg and spoon, sack, three-legged and leap frog.

After the races, students compete in the tug-of-war. Fifth graders compete against their parents and then fourth grade. Third grade competes against second grade. First grade competes against kindergarten. Sometimes the younger students prevail.

This year, there were jazzy jars, a cake walk and the fifth grade softball game before lunch.

We thank Champy's for providing the chicken at lunch.
