Third graders celebrated Mr. Morgan in the Spring of Gratitude by sharing what they learned during their colonial unit. They ate a colonial lunch, danced and enjoyed a special video.

Students ate lunch with Mr. Morgan, and they all dressed in their colonial attire, including Mr. Morgan, who dressed as George Washington. Their colonial lunch was beans, green beans, cabbage and cornbread with a gingerbread cookie. There were also modern-day sandwiches for those who wanted them. The students and teachers gave Mr. Morgan a colonial house birdhouse because he loves birds.

All the students danced the Virginia Reel with Mrs. Womack as the caller. Several surprise guests also joined the dancing on stage in the Centennial Theater -- Mrs. Kropff, Mrs. Reasor and Ms. Janie!

On the final day, the students shared a video that featured words that describe Mr. Morgan and photo remembrances from Mr. Morgan's time at Bright. The video was created by Coltin Calloway, stepfather of third grader Alice Aupperle. Click here to watch the video.

Mrs. Womack wrote a poem for Mr. Morgan and read it aloud:

Our car door opens, you greet with such style,

A kind word spoken you make us all smile,

The day is started, the school you must run,

You’re never too busy to stop and have fun,

Delighting in kids who write what they know,

Applauding their efforts like seeing a show

You praise and encourage when there’s a school play,

Discouraging nerves that get in the way,

We know you have meetings and emails to read,

Your driving force is for us to succeed,

Seeing the needs for updating the school,

Getting the funding, we think, “You rule!”

Willing to read all night on the roof,

No one could ever say you’re aloof,

Friendly to all, a really nice guy,

Inspires so many to reach for the sky,

It saddens us all to see you leave,

A difference you’ve made, we all believe,

We take in our hearts, the difference you’ve made,

Bright’s better tomorrow, its future you saved,

Child by child their best at heart,

Hope for tomorrow, rest you can start,

A job well done, you leave behind,

Remembering a principal oh so kind

Enjoy your retirement take pride in knowing,

Students at Bright will still keep growing,

A foundation laid, solid and strong,

With tears in our eyes, we say, “So long!”
