Our school founder, Mary G. Bright, was born on this day in 1885. She founded Bright in 1913 and lived to see it flourish for more than 50 years.
Students in grades 3-5 wrote poems in honor of Miss Bright's birthday. They researched her life and learned about what kind of lady and head of school she was. Many of the educational values she promoted and the activities and traditions she began continue today.
Here are some of the poems:
Miss Bright was
Incredible and caring
Sweet to the students
Spectacular leader to others
Brave and beautiful
Radiant and ruled Bright
Inspired people to do their best
Giving students encouragement to do their best
Hard working to make Bright School great
Thank you Miss Bright for all you have done!

Dear Miss Bright,
Thank you for the wonderful school we have today.
Now I will list some things I love about Bright School, if I may.
From Shop to library, music and science,
technology and Spanish, keyboarding and art,
No matter what you do, it will play an important part.
You were courageous, intelligent, progressive, and passionate.
You helped the community.
You thought your own way.
You were an outstanding teacher throughout your day.

When I look at the school,
I see smiling children.
The classrooms are full,
With learning students.
The teachers are busy,
Getting ready for classes.
It is all a wonderful sight,
The teaching, the learning.
All is what I hoped…
Bright School will always be my home.
By Lucinda Ranalli, 5th grade
Made a great school by:
Ignoring what women’s right were.
Shaping an amazing learning environment.
Surpassing what anyone said she could do.
Being determined!
Ringing the bell at the end of the day.
Invention of Bright School.
Greatly made it happen!
Hard working and
The one thing this school is most grateful for.
by Ben Dillard, 5th grade
Miss Bright was…
Intelligent because she knew how to make learning fun
Superb because she founded Bright School
Selfless because she put her students first
Brilliant because her legacy lives on
Respectful because she wanted Bright School students to help the community
Inspiring because she inspired her students to do their best
Great because she created woodshop for the Bright School Students
Helpful because she helped her students learn
Thank you, Miss Bright!

She founded this school in 1913
That teaches kids from 3 years to early tweens
300 students go there daily
Which raises the question,
Who is this lady?
That teaches kids from 3 years to early tweens
300 students go there daily
Which raises the question,
Who is this lady?
For 11 years this school was in a house
Then in 1924, POOF!
An actual school house!
I know that rhyming was bad, but it is really just fine
And the person who did this all
Was Mary G. Bright!
by Avery Levin, 5th grade
100 years ago when this school was founded, that sturdy building upon those Fort Wood Grounds.
I wonder what this school had back then and what people were like back when.
I’m sure Miss Bright would love school now, the school that she once found.
But still 100 years later, students and teachers set upon those sturdy grounds.

Thank you Miss Bright
Because of you our school is just right
You made our school a happy place
Where every child has a smile on their face
You started the Bright School lunch
That makes us want to eat a bunch
We cannot forget the Haunted House
which is our favorite, without a doubt
Thank you Miss Bright once again
For making our learning experience never end
