Students are learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy this week through books, songs and art. School was closed on the federal holiday Monday, but the school provided resources for families to learn at home as well.

First graders in Mrs. Smith's class learned a song called "Freedom Freedom Let It Ring" that comes from the "I Have a Dream" speech. Watch and listen to them sing here.

Kindergarten students in Miss Sonal's class listened to her read "Martin's Big Words," and then they decorated a coloring book about the civil rights leader.

Students in art class are learning about how art can create change. Mrs. Davis is using the example of the song "Happy Birthday" that Stevie Wonder wrote to promote the idea of a holiday to commemorate the life of Dr. King.
