Questions You May Have
How long will Bright School’s campus be closed?
The Bright School has suspended classes and closed campus to students, starting March 16 through April 13. Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 14.
What are students supposed to do while they are out of school?
Continue their learning! The Bright School is continuing instruction via distance learning (see Distance Learning section below). Daily instruction is provided March 23-April 3. There will be no distance learning during the regularly-scheduled spring break, April 3-April 13.
Will faculty and staff report to school during the closure?
The school is now closed to everyone accept certain administrative staff.
What do I do if I have a question?
See the Who Do I Call section for more information.
Will other activities take place at school during the closure?
No, there will be no other Bright School activities such as Bright Afternoons, after school classes or athletics. The campus is closed during this period.
Will events scheduled during the closure be canceled or rescheduled?
We are not sure at this time. We believe all field trips will be canceled and not made up. We have not yet made a decision about the kindergarten play, scheduled for March 26-27, but it will not take place on those days obviously. We will communicate about events as soon as we have that information.
What is distance learning and how do I do it?
Distance learning is instruction provided to students via platforms on the Internet or through email correspondence. Our teachers are using technology readily available to parents at home. Distance learning includes emails from the teacher, videos of instruction, live video conferencing and other online materials, but not all of the work students will do will be online. Students will still read books, write, and work with their hands, and teachers will encourage them to be physically active during the day.
What kinds of devices do I need to access distance learning?
All the tools teachers are using are not device specific. You should be able to use a desktop computer, laptop or tablet. Some instruction may be more difficult to use on a phone, but it should still be accessible.
What if I do not have Internet access or digital devices at home?
Teachers will provide paper handouts and other non-digital materials if this is an issue for families. Please contact your child’s teacher.
What happens if I don’t have the materials at home?
Teachers have sent home materials from the classroom such as textbooks, handouts and manipulatives for the younger students. If your child was absent and did not receive these materials, please contact your child’s teacher. Some of the materials may be available online, and some items could be swapped out for items readily available at home.
What is the schedule for distance learning?
Your child’s teacher has provided a daily schedule with full details. Full distance learning will begin on March 23. There will be a recommended schedule of how long children should spend a day doing certain activities and classwork. This will be a mix of homeroom activities and special area activities for K-5.
Will students have to make up school days at the end of the year?
At this time, no, we do not believe extra days will have to be made up and that the last day of school will remain May 21 with graduation on May 22. However, we cannot predict the spread of the virus, and so we will monitor the number of hours we are providing of instruction to ensure it meets state requirements.
