Ringers from The Metropolitan Bells played and taught students about their instruments during Music Day on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Music Day, first held in 2017, is made possible by the Aldridge/Patten Fund for Visiting Artists, started by Henry Aldridge and the late Fontaine Patten Moore, both from the class of 1955.
The ensemble played several selections during an opening assembly, including The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Under the Sea, complete with bubbles. They also showed how their bells and chimes vary in size and sound, from very small high-pitch bells to a very large bass bell, affectionately known as, “Fred.”
After the assembly performance, classes rotated through stations to try different bells and chimes. Younger students were able to try playing Hot Cross Buns and other well-known songs with colored desk bells, while fourth and fifth graders used chimes to play My Country Tis of Thee.
