Homecoming - Saturday, October 4th

On the morning of Saturday, October 4, Bright School alumni, faculty emeriti, students and friends celebrated the school’s 95th Anniversary with lively homecoming festivities.  Following a breakfast celebration at Bright School, alumni, parents, students, and friends caravanned to Baylor’s Heywood Stadium to watch the Bright Stars take on the Mocs in their YMCA league game.

Bright School’s 2008 Homecoming highlighted the resurgence of Bright School’s football team, following their reintroduction last year after an absence of nearly 30 years.  Alumnus Dr. Peter Hunt '78 fondly remembered his days on the Bright School football team in 1978.  His son Mac is the third generation of the Hunt family to play Bright School football.  “My father kept boxes of memorabilia from his days on the football team in the 1940’s,” noted Dr. Hunt.  The Bright Stars roster also includes legacy players of alumni Arnold Erwin ‘71, Tommy Austin ‘79, Joey Warwick ‘79, and Tim Kelly ‘79.

The day’s activities featured the National Anthem performed by Bright School’s Harmony Cluster - a student acapella group, led by Lynda Hill. Fifth grader Michael B., “The Voice of the Bright Stars,” did a wonderful play-by-play commentary with his assistants David Sharpe and Kevin Shaughnessy.  Alumnus Jack McDonald ’45 even joined Michael in the booth to reminisce of his time on the football field under the guidance of Miss Bright herself.  Student cheerleaders and gymnasts, led by Angela Meyer, roused the crowd and cheered the team to a 29-0 victory.

“We are overwhelmed with the positive response for our first homecoming event.  We hope the success of this event will grow as we continue to bring back fond memories for more than 3,000 graduates who love Bright School,” commented O.J. Morgan, Head of School.
