Fifth grade students will come to the science lab three times during a six day rotation.  The students will be using science journals as their science notebooks.  These journals will stay in the science lab. (No lost or forgotten notebooks!)  The journals will be a place and a means for the students to reflect on their ideas.  Language is the primary avenue that students use to arrive at scientific understanding.  Learning science involves both the process of thinking and the ability to communicate these thoughts.  This does not mean less hands-on activities!  It does mean the students will be encouraged to develop deeper critical thinking and reasoning skills through the use of the journals where language, data and experience will work together to form meaning for each student.

My desire is to develop a creative, hands-on program that leads to a love of science and how we interact with the world around us.  If you have any questions, concerns or comments please do not hesitate to email me.  I look forward to working with your child this year!
