STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Bright School endeavors to make available to parents a quality after-school program. It is a program with flexible scheduling, enrichment programs, age-appropriate activities, and one which promotes social growth. The staff strives for a program that meets maximum, not minimum standards.
DAILY ENVIRONMENT
Homework study hall is not mandatory. It works best when individual families set homework policies and enforce them. Forms for study hall will be sent home at a later date. Parents must return the forms if they want their child to attend study hall.
GUIDANCE
The ECP staff has the same expectations of the children that are set forth by Bright School policies. The children are expected to be polite, respect the property of others, and work together to create a positive, cooperative environment. The ECP discipline philosophy is one of positive reinforcement. If a child's behavior does not improve with praise and encouragement, a short period of playtime will be taken away. The next step would be to call in the parents for a conference. The ECP director may dismiss a child whose behavior is found to be a threat to that child or the health and safety of others.
HEALTH & SAFETY
The ECP generally follows the Bright School policy regarding sick children. Children with 100-degree temperatures should be picked up as soon as possible. We ask that you wait 24 hours after your child is free of symptoms before allowing them to return to school. Medication can be administered by the ECP director or assistant only if the parent has sent a signed note with instructions and the medication is labeled with the child's name.
EXTENDED CARE FEES
In order to finance the staffing of the ECP, you will be responsible for the charges for which your child is enrolled regardless of the absence of your child due to illness, Brownies, Scouts, or vacations. However, an exception will be made if the child is participating in a school-sponsored function such as an out of town field trip. Statements for full-time children will be sent out by the 15th of each month. Payment should be made by the due date. Statements for part-time children will be sent out the month following the child's attendance. Make checks payable to the Bright School. Cash payments will only be accepted in the exact amount or a credit will be added to the account.
ARRIVAL AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
Please come to the gym in the afternoons. There is a bulletin board outside of the Extended Care office that will have posted the area in which your child will be located. Parents are responsible for making sure that children are signed out each day. Parents can help end their child's day in a positive way by: 1. allowing time for their child to finish the activity in which they are involved 2. encouraging their child to put away equipment, toys and supplies 3. making sure their child has all of their personal items before departing. Pick-up Authorization: When filling out the registration form, please list all persons authorized to pick up your child/children. Parents are responsible for keeping the forms up to date so that the ECP staff can protect each child enrolled in the program. If someone is to pick up your child other than those listed, a signed, dated note indicating such information must be given to the director.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Communication between staff, parents and children is the driving force behind a successful program. Please feel free to share your ideas and suggestions with the ECP staff on a regular basis. By working together, we can make each day a special one for your child and provide the highest quality of care. Email me! Mrs. Hicks: Chicks@brightschool.com
