Letter to Parents 2010-2011
BRIGHT PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS Dear Parents, Aug. 27, 2010
Welcome to a new year of health and physical education at the Bright School. We are so excited to teach your children about health, wellness and how to be fit in a fun and enjoyable way. We hope your children will share with you what we are doing in P.E. each day.
First, we would like to share with you some important gym keeping details.
· Girls need to always wear shorts to school under their dress, jumper or skirt, because in P.E. we do all sorts of upside down activities.
· We need a note signed by a parent or doctor if your child is sick or hurt and cannot do P.E. that day. If they are out for a while and can still do some things, please be specific about what they can do and cannot do. If your child has exercised induced asthma please, send an inhaler to be kept in the gym in a plastic bag with their name on it.
· All children need to wear tennis shoes everyday. The dress code calls for principally white, black, blue or any dark color that does not leave black marks on the floor. We also suggest that they wear tie-ups or Velcro and not clogs, heels or the new fad, slip-on tennis shoes. Slip-ons, clogs and heels do not give the children’s ankles any support or they slip off when the children run. Even on free dress days they need to wear their tennis shoes or at least bring them to P.E. · We will have many events throughout the year with which we could use your help. We have fitness testing, Bright Wellness night (we have this every other year and this is not the year!),“PALS” awards, etc. What is the PALS award? In physical education every month we pick two children (usually a boy and a girl, but not always) who have demonstrated how to be willing to Participate, have a good Attitude, Listen when the coaches are talking, and are Safe. Each winner gets a bracelet to put on their arm . Their name will go up on the bulletin board above the water fountain outside our office for that month till the next winners are selected. Also, their name will go on the P.E. website. At the end of the year we pick two overall winners from each grade on awards day that have demostrated outstanding wellness. Wellness is defined as being physically fit, willing to participate and complete all assignments given with their best effort and attitude.
· Friday, Sept. 3, we will be having our Bright School Water day for grades 1-5. The children may want to wear their bathing suits under their uniform that day to school and bring their underwear and towel in a plastic bag with their name on them. When they change after class they can put their wet bathing suit in the plastic bag. Please, no two piece bathing suits. If that is all you have, please send a t-shirt to wear over it. They may wear Tankinis. The children will change in the locker rooms. If you think your child would be embarrassed you can tell them they may go in the bathroom to change. · Go to our website for all up to date dates and news. As you can see we have a lot going on in P.E. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement to the children and us. We look forward to a great year!!! In Wellness and Health, Coaches Blair and Connell
