General Information for Parents
ATTENDENCE: Students may arrive at the classroom as early as 7:45 AM. They are to report to the cafeteria if they arrive at school before that time. Please keep in mind that school begins at 8:00 AM and all students arriving late will be marked as tardy. ABSENCES: If your child is absent we will be happy to send their assignments home. Please email us or leave a message for us before noon indicating how the work should reach your child. We will have the assignments ready at the end of the school day. COMMUNICATION: Communication between home and school is very important. We will do our best to keep you informed on things we are doing in the classroom. Most information will now be updated through our website. If you need to reach us, a short note send with your child in the morning, or an email will reach us more quickly than leaving a voicemail. CONFERENCES: Conferences for all parents will be held in November and again in February. Please sign up online for a convenient time. We will send you a reminder as the date draws nearer. HOMEWORK: Second graders are expected to have approximately 30 minutes of homework each day. We will assign homework Mondays through Thursdays. Your child will be bringing home an assignment binder. Please go over it with your child, sign it, and return to school each day. Each week your child will have spelling words to learn, as well as other assignments. All work is to completed in pencil. Encourage your child to work independently. Spelling tests will be given every Friday. Most of our correspondence will take place on our website, so please remember to check for weekly updates. BOOK ORDERS: Book orders will be sent home periodically. Participation is optional. If you are interested in making a purchase, you may order on-line or return the order form and payment by the deadline. Please make checks out to “Scholastic Books”. PLAY: Plan now to reserve Friday, October 8th at 8:15 AM for a real delight. This is the day of our second grade play. Helpers are needed for costumes, scenery, and the cast party. Please volunteer to help in some way. CLASS PARTIES: We will be having Fall and Valentine’s Day parties. More information to follow. BIRTHDAYS: Birthdays are special occasions for second graders. The school invites you to have lunch with your child on this special day at no charge. Any treats you would like to share with the class may be brought with you. Please let us know in advance what your plans are to celebrate this special day in an effort to avoid a conflict. Please see Bright School Handbook for more information on the birthday and party policies. HOW CAN YOU HELP US?
