Third graders finished their study of American colonial life with the annual Colonial Day celebration. Students and teachers wore period costumes, and the students learned how to do several crafts colonists would have used in their everyday lives.

Third graders are each assigned a trade such as weaving, barrel making, baking, blacksmithing and teaching, and the students research and write an essay about the trade. Then, they give a presentation, in costume, about their trade in front of the class. Students also make signs for their trades.

During this year's Colonial Day, third graders got a sneak peek of the new log cabin at school that was recently built near the track. The cabin will be used for educational purposes as well as storage for outdoor P.E. equipment.

Many parents helped organize Colonial Day stations for crafts. The students decorated picture frames with calligraphy, made beeswax candles and pinch pots, made butter and tasted it, learned how to weave, made hats for men and women, and learned dances and games.
