This year, Bright School had 22 recognized in the Young Southern Student Writers contest. The prizes were awarded for poetry and prose. Two students were recognized in both categories.

Students in grades 3-5 submitted prose and/or poetry to the contest, which is sponsored by the Southern Lit Alliance and the Department of English at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Students from across the region will be recognized at a ceremony at the Tivoli Theater on April 30.

UTC faculty read all the submissions and evaluate them on creativity, content and style. There is one winner selected per every 15 entries of each category for each grade. The winning entries will be published online.
