Head of School O.J. Morgan information the Bright School Community of a leadership change.

News of change always engenders a mix of emotions, and I'm sure you will feel these announcements as deeply as I do with a mix of sadness and excitement for all involved.

First, Christy Lusk, our beloved Assistant Head for Curriculum and Instruction, has accepted an offer to become the next Head of the Bolles Lower School, Whitehurst Campus, in Jacksonville, Florida. Without a doubt, Christy's passion for Bright School and its mission has been a driving force behind important curricular and programmatic improvements during her 12-year tenure, first as a fourth grade teacher and then as Assistant Head. What we will all remember most, however, is her genuine and wise manner as she taught, counseled, consoled, guided, and inspired countless students, parents, and teachers. Her legacy will be long-lasting, but we will all join in wishing her well as she continues her good work at Bolles. One of my greatest joys has been the opportunity and privilege to work with Christy on a daily basis, furthering the great mission of Bright School.

Second, I'm thrilled to announce that Kendra Reasor, one of our third grade teachers, will follow in Christy's footsteps, while also making her own mark on Bright School, beginning next fall. Like Christy, Kendra is a master teacher who brings a passion for students and an innovative, child-centered curriculum with which to enliven their fervor for learning. She is highly regarded by her colleagues and parents, and I'm confident that she will continue the momentum and confidence in our program that Christy has helped to build. Already, both she and Christy have worked together in making significant changes, and Christy's mentorship will continue through the winter and spring.

Please join me in congratulating both Christy and Kendra.

Statement from Christy Lusk:

"Words cannot begin to describe what the Bright School community has meant to me during the last twelve years. As a parent, teacher, and administrator, I have a deep love and appreciation for what our special school is able to offer young children. It has truly been an honor to serve the Bright School families and a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated faculty and staff. Being a part of this community has made me a better person, and I will be forever grateful for the life-long friendships and wonderful memories. This decision was not easy, but it is one that will provide an opportunity for me to grow professionally and continue to serve a school community committed to excellence. No matter the distance, Bright School will always hold a special place in my heart!"

Mrs. Reasor has been teaching third grade at Bright since 2017 and is co-director of Bright Days, our summer program. Prior to Bright, she taught at Hawk Ridge Elementary School in Charlotte, where was named Beginning Teacher of the Year and later Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Reasor has been involved in implementing Bright's reading and writing curriculum, Lucy Calkins Reader's Workshop and Writer's Workshop, and she served on the Programs Workgroup for the school's 2020-2025 Strategic Plan.

"I am excited and honored to accept this position. As we all know, Christy has set a strong foundation and legacy for Bright School that cannot be replaced. It is my hope to support our school's mission and goals within student learning and teaching that will continue to place Bright School at the forefront of educational excellence," Mrs. Reasor said.
