Our school was closed for classes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to allow families to participate in community activities. A group of teachers and families walked in the 50th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Memorial March downtown.

More than 150 people from various community groups took part in the march that began in front of the federal courthouse and moved down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Olivet Baptist Church at the corner of Peeples Street.

During the week leading up to the holiday, students learned about Dr. King with various activities. Third graders read "Martin's Big Words," and second graders read "March On!" Kindergarten made crafts related to dreams they have.

Students in grades 1-5 watched a Kid President video about Dr. King during Bright Fest Friday, our semi-weekly assembly on Friday afternoons.
