Welcome New Teachers!

The Bright School welcomes five new classroom teachers and a new school counselor for the 2018-19 school year. The new teachers are Rachel Berger in JPK, Jill Johnson in PK, Heather Cooper in kindergarten, Farrah Barto in fourth grade and Jennifer Galloway in fifth grade. Rachel Desmond is our new counselor.

Due to increased enrollment to nearly 340, the school added two more classrooms, one in junior pre-kindergarten (JPK) and the other in pre-kindergarten (PK). This brings the total number of classrooms per grade level to three.

Teachers in several grades have switched to other grades. Karen Smith moved to first grade, and Emily Satterfield moved to second grade. There were no changes in the third grade team.

Visit our website to read more about the new teachers and to view the list of early childhood assistants.

Who Is My Child's Teacher?

We are adding a new way for students and parents to learn who their teachers are. Emails from the classroom teachers will be sent to all parents at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Registration Day, notifying you and your child who your child's teacher is. If you do not receive an email or cannot access your email that morning, we will still have classroom lists available at the Registration Fair.

All parents and children should gather in the gym before going to the classrooms. You may move into the hallways at 9:45 a.m. and wait outside the classrooms. This would be a good time to sign up to be a grade rep for the Parents' Association. Classrooms for grades K-5 will open at 10 a.m. There will be special area teachers in the halls to direct parents to the classrooms.

Families of JPK and PK students should arrive in the gym for the Registration Fair at 11:30 a.m. These classrooms will open at noon. We expect JPK and PK registration to end by 12:45 p.m.

Reminder: Students do not wear uniforms on Registration Day.

Parking Spot Auction

Do you want to have a guaranteed parking spot every time you come to school, even for big events like Registration Day?

Watch for an email tomorrow with a link where you can bid online. The parking space auction benefits the Bright Fund, our school's annual fund.

Phase-In Days for JPK, PK and Kindergarten

Phase-in days are August 16 and 17. Students in JPK, PK and kindergarten will be assigned to attend school on one of those days. You will receive an individual email telling you which day to come. These are regular school hours: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for JPK and PK and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for kindergarten.

If your child needs to stay past 1 p.m. or 3 p.m., he or she may stay in Bright Afternoons as late as 6 p.m.

If you need child care on the day that is not your child's phase-in day, your child is welcome to come all day to Bright Afternoons. There will be a sign up for this on Registration Day in your child's classroom.

Forms Due on Registration Day

There are several forms and payments due on Registration Day. Use this checklist to help organize your forms. All of this information is available on our Registration Day webpage.

The required forms include:

Download these forms from the Registration Day webpage. You may fill them out online and email them to [email protected] or print them and bring them to the office or your child's teacher on Registration Day.

There are medical forms that are only required if they pertain to your child: Epi-PenInhalerOTC or Prescription. These are due by Registration Day.

All students must have an immunization form on file in the office by Registration Day. Students in JPK, PK and K and any new students in other grades should receive an updated and current form from their pediatrician. Returning students who are already up to date and are not required to have immunizations this year do not need to turn in a new form. New Parent Events

All new parents are strongly encouraged to attend the New Parent Orientation next Tuesday, August 14, from 4-5 p.m. This is a great time to learn about the details of daily life at Bright including various procedures and policies. Enter the building at the columns entrance and join us in the Centennial Theater for a presentation and question-and-answer period. This is a parents-only event.

The Parents' Association is hosting a New Parent Coffee on Wednesday, August 22, at 8 a.m. or as soon as you drop off your child. Please come to the Dining Hall and meet other new parents and PA volunteers.

Volunteer to be a Grade Level Rep

The Parents' Association has changed the format of room reps. Instead of having volunteers from each classroom, there will be six representatives for each grade. Volunteers will have specific jobs among the six reps. Parents may sign up to be a grade rep on Registration Day on a sheet beside the classroom door.

To learn more about the responsibilities of the grade reps, please read the guidelinesposted on the PA webpage. For more information, contact Lucy Sawrie at [email protected].

Library Volunteers and Birthday Books

The library is seeking volunteers to help during the week and during the Book Fair, which will be in December. For more information, see the Library Volunteer form on the Registration Day webpage.

Another way to support the library is to donate books through the Birthday Book Club. With a $20 donation, books are given to the library in honor of your child. He or she will pick out the book and will be the first to check it out. Please send $20 and the Birthday Book Club form to the library or office by October 1.

For questions about volunteering or the birthday book club, please contact librarian Elizabeth Oakes at [email protected].

Sponsor an International Flag

The Bright School celebrates the diversity of its families by displaying flags from countries of origin on the Guerry International Plaza that overlooks the parking lot. We are in the process of ordering new flags for this school year. If you would like to sponsor a flag to represent your family, please send or bring to the office a check for $50 to The Bright School by Registration Day and include the name of the country. Questions? Contact Ms. Janie at [email protected].

Bright Sponsorships

Monetary sponsorships, auction items or in-kind gifts are all ways you can help ensure the best education possible for our kids! In return, you will receive advertising and publicity that identifies your business as a strong supporter of early childhood education. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. There are four levels of sponsorships. For more information, visit our sponsorships webpage or contact Kim Brown, director of advancement: [email protected].

If you would like to donate an item for the Pajama Party Auction or Art Party, also please contact Kim Brown at the above email address. The Pajama Party Auction is an online auction, and the Art Party is a silent auction event. Both fundraisers are held in the fall.
